Remembering Dr. Martin L. King –
January 20, 2025 was a day to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr. Period. It was a day of reflection and service. Many of us did not engage in the fiasco
that took place in Washington, D. C., and we didn’t engage for good reason. Why watch
a production that is possibly the downfall of American democracy as we know it?
Dr. King was a nonviolent man. The man who’s now residing in the people’s house is
violent. He incited others to violence years ago on January 6, 2021 after refusing to
accept his loss. Currently, he has pardoned those violent offenders calling them patriots.
He assaulted women to exert power over them. He lies and steals. He showed our
country who he is, and people voted for his felonious being any way.
Dr. King was a kind man who believed in people working together for the good of all
people, especially Black and Brown people. The current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania
Ave is divisive. He is showing who he is by already deactivating the Spanish page on
the White House website. He is telling Spanish speakers to go home. That is pure hate
and racist behavior. No one with that energy should hold the highest office in our
country.
I cannot imagine what Dr. King would say to us today. I would say that what we’re
experiencing is exactly what the White House resident said was going to happen.
Medicine costs are increasing, and groceries are high, too. People are being
recommended for positions in which they have no knowledge or experience. Special
education children are going to suffer. Social programs and benefits are going to be cut.
All I can say is to stay prayed up and then pray mightily again. For his supporters, it’s
going to be a rude awakening because they did not think the proverbial crap would hit
their fans. It will. It is. Choosing a man who engages in hateful acts and behavior is not
what good people do, in my opinion.
I will close with a quote from Dr. King. “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too
great a burden to bear.”
